I figured, since it seems I've jumped back into the dating pool after a lengthy stay on dry land (with a minor interruption in what seemed like potentially a real one but, nope--so far from) I might as well write about all the cool dating places I'm discovering. After all, you can't just feed the heart on first or second dates--there's the stomach andthe eyes. Alore. Here goes:
1. Cavallo Point--the new Cavallo Point is just 5-7 minute drive north over the bridge in Fort Baker, nestled in the Marin Headlands. The restaurant is part of a lodge/retreat facilities recently developed in the area. The restaurant--Murray Circle--is warm yet minimalistic. The menu is exquisite and featured lots of fish and seafood selections with some quality meet options. Not much for vegetarians, I should warn. The service is personal yet very professional. On my last visit, as we were driving down the narrow windy road leading to Cavallo Point we were greeted by a deer--dozens of them--dining on the surrounding grass. To say it was lovely doesn't not do it justice.
2. Kokkari--Warm, open, leathery, sexy--the bar and restaurant at Kokkari provide some of the best ambiance for a date. The food is quite delightful too: glistening Greek tapas, large fresh catch plates, and great drinks. The word sensual comes to mind. The staff is super nice and very accommodating. Need a corner table? An extra chair at the bar? No problem. Just ask Robin or anyone else at the front and they'll do their absolute best to help you out.
3. Beretta--Large black lacquered family table takes up the center space at this long and warmly lit Mission spot. Tall tables line its walls. Choose this place if you're not too hungry and want to 'hang out' getting to know each other. Share a think crust pizza, warm olives, large selection of Antipasti or any of the Italian cuisine inspired dishes while sipping on some chic and creative drinks from the bar.
4. Medjool--Still a favorite after all those years. Featuring North African, Southern European and Mediterranean delights like chicken with pomegranate and pine nuts, Tunesean tagin, grilled figs, and Sumac dusted calamari, warm the palette while one of the best Mojitos in town swirl your head. To truly enjoy all that Medjool has to offer, go during the week and make sure you plan ahead to give yourself enough time to go to the roof and overlook the city. On a warm day--go early and have your first drink there. Red sunsets included.
5. Aqua--Voted one of the best 100 restaurants in California, Aqua is an upscale, up-priced seafood restaurant that solidly delivers to its reputation. Unique visual creations, richly layered textures, superb service. The Thomas Crown Affair track which plays on its website is a perfect capture of the Aqua experience.
I usually don't recommend Aqua for a first date, but recently my whole outlook on upscale restaurants has changed: if you're truly comfortable in your skin, you'd make even the stuffiest restaurant (which Aqua is not) your home. It's a challenge in a way. One that I take on with delight.
Yours truly,
Datingirl
